A last-minute fight over public school funding Wednesday almost derailed final Missouri state budget votes as Democrats, with some Republican allies, questioned whether some funds dedicated to education will be available in the coming year.

Legislation sponsored by State Sen. Nick Schroer, a Defiance Republican, grew to include amendments ranging from a domestic violence registry to expanded DNA testing after arrests and an expanded pay policy at the state-controlled St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (Annelise Hanshaw/Missouri Independent).
