Good morning,
Missouri voters spent much of 2024 debating abortion, then settled the question by the narrowest of margins: 51.6% voted to put reproductive rights in the state constitution.
Naturally, we are now doing it again.
This time, voters are being asked to repeal what they approved and replace it with a near total ban. And if anyone thought the first vote had settled Missouri’s politics on the issue, the latest numbers suggest otherwise.
Amendment 3 looked fairly comfortable earlier this year, leading by 11 points in reweighted February polling. Now that advantage has disappeared. A new SLU/YouGov survey has the measure essentially tied, with movement among groups that could matter in November.
In other words, Missouri’s second abortion election in two years may wind up looking a lot like the first: extremely close.
